Families
Chosen Children strongly believes orphans and vulnerable children should be taken care of within the natural setting of a family. However, we are also aware that families, extended families and single women living in poverty experience great hardships. They face insurmountable challenges and stresses to adequately care for their child or orphaned relative which sometimes puts a child’s wellbeing at risk.
We come alongside such families with resources to strengthen them so that children under their care are protected and families can stay together.
How we work
Teaching literacy skills to women
Rebuilding and rehabilitation of homes
Supporting elderly grandmothers caring for orphans
Offering income generating support to families
Providing assistance to access medical care
Your Impact
Isabelle, a widow with no living relatives or children of her own, took upon herself to care for 4 orphans from different families. She and the children were living in a temporary shelter in the compound of a church. She was in desperate need of a home because they had to vacate the shelter in the church when it was needed for other purposes. Chosen Children assisted this family with a new home so that the children would have a permanent and secure shelter to thrive in.
Aids has left millions as orphans and has changed the shape of families in Africa. An enormous burden is placed on extended families, in particular elderly grandmothers. Most often these grandmothers grow their own food and struggle to feed their children let alone afford the cost of educating and clothing these children. Chosen Children comes alongside these households providing them with emergency rations, school fees and school supplies, clothing and household items. After careful consideration of the circumstances, age and abilities of the caregiver, various income generation ventures are offered such as rearing goats for milk and sale.
